Spend a Sunday getting your hands dirty at REAP Climate Center in Alameda

If you have been curious about REAP Climate Center, this is a good day to stop by. The Alameda campus opens at 10 am on Sunday, December 6, with volunteer sessions running through the afternoon at 2133 Tynan Ave.

REAP has that working campus feel. Think garden beds, compost, tools, outdoor projects, and people moving around with a purpose. It is less about standing around and more about learning by doing. You might help with watering, planting, compost building, animal care, light building work, or cleanup, depending on what the site needs that week.

There are no performers in the usual stage sense here. The energy comes from the crew, returning volunteers, new faces, and anyone willing to pitch in. If you like practical skills, local climate work, and meeting neighbors without small talk being the main activity, this fits the bill.

The day starts with new volunteer orientation at 10 am. The first work session runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a bring your own lunch hang from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The second session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, then the group winds down and cleans up until sunset.

All ages and experience levels are welcome, but everyone needs to fill out the waiver before arriving. You can find the event details here: REAP Climate Center event page.

Bring water, clothes you can work in, and lunch if you plan to stay through the middle of the day. Alameda weather can shift near the water, so layers are a safe call.

For East Bay folks looking for a grounded way to spend a Sunday, this is a nice chance to help out, learn a bit, and see what is growing at REAP.

What to Expect:
Everyone, young or old, experienced or still learning, is welcome to join our Sunday and Wednesday volunteer days (and stay for Wednesday night potluck!). We do our best to update this volunteer page one week before the event to describe what tasks we have planned. Some possibilities include: watering, planting, compost building, animal maintenance, light construction or fabrication, and heavy construction.
