Job search support for veterans at Oakland Public Library
On Thursday, July 16, the Oakland Public Library will host a practical drop in session for military veterans looking for work, job leads, referrals, or a little direction on next steps.
The main person to know is Robert McCockran, a veterans representative with America’s Job Center and the Employment Development Department in Oakland. He will be at the Community Kiosk from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
This is a useful stop if you are updating a resume, looking for openings, dealing with gaps in work history, or trying to figure out what benefits or services might apply. Robert can also answer some unemployment insurance questions.
The Main Library has that steady downtown Oakland feel. People come through to read, work, use computers, ask questions, and handle real life tasks. For a session like this, that setting makes sense. It is public, easy to find, and low pressure.
The support is especially geared toward veterans facing barriers to work, including older veterans, people who are unhoused, justice involved, or recently out of military service.
