Teens! Machine Sewing 101 at Oakland Public Library
Downtown Oakland teens who have been curious about sewing have a good reason to head to the Main Library TeenZone on Tuesday, June 30. From 3 to 5 pm, Oakland Public Library is hosting the second session of a three week sewing series for ages 13 to 18.
This is a practical, get your hands on the machine kind of afternoon. Teens will learn how to thread a sewing machine, guide fabric, stitch in a straight line, and build toward a simple finished project. By the end of the series, each person should leave with a handmade pencil case or tote bag.
No stage performers here. The action is the students, the machines, and the TeenZone staff helping everyone get comfortable without making it feel like school. If you know the Main Library, the TeenZone has that useful mix of quiet focus and casual hangout energy, which fits a beginner sewing class pretty well.
All materials are provided, so there is no need to bring a sewing kit from home. Registration is required for the full series, and spots are limited. The sessions run June 23, June 30, and July 7 from 3 to 5 pm.
