Commander, snacks, and a quiet Sunday hang at Oakland Public Library
Sunday, June 28 brings a relaxed afternoon of Magic the Gathering to the Main TeenZone at Oakland Public Library. The session runs from 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm, giving teens a good stretch of time to sit down, shuffle up, and meet other players.
This one is centered on Commander, the social format where the table matters as much as the cards. New players can learn without pressure, and experienced players can bring their strategy brain and see what happens.
The TeenZone has that easy library feel: calm enough to focus, open enough to talk, and right in the middle of downtown Oakland at 125 14th Street. It is a good spot for teens who want something low key but still social.
There are no stage performers here. The players carry the afternoon, building decks, telling stories through the game, and trying out weird card combos with people their own age.
All teens ages 12 to 18 are welcome. Materials are provided, and yes, snacks are part of the plan.
Good pick for teens who like strategy games, fantasy worlds, and meeting other local players without needing to bring anything but themselves.
Teens!
