Pete Escovedo brings art, music, and a birthday toast to The Grand Gallery Oakland

On Thursday, July 9, The Grand Gallery Oakland opens its doors for an evening with Pete Escovedo, whose pen and ink drawings and paintings will be on view through July 31.

The reception runs from 5 to 8 pm at The Grand Gallery Oakland, 560 2nd St. It also lands on Pete’s 91st birthday, which gives the night a warm extra reason to stop by, say hello, and spend time with the work.

Pete is best known to many as a Bay Area music legend, with a long life in Latin jazz and percussion. But this show gives people a chance to see another side of him. The drawings and paintings carry the hand of someone who has spent decades thinking in rhythm, movement, and feeling.

The gallery sits in Oakland’s waterfront area, close to Jack London Square, with that mix of old brick, evening light, and neighborhood foot traffic that makes a reception feel easy to drop into.
