Simplifying for Impact 2-Day Plein Air Workshop!
July 17, 2026 9:00 am
Plein air painters have a good reason to head to Alameda in July.
Frank Bette Center for the Arts is hosting a two day outdoor painting workshop with artist Cleo Vilett on Friday and Saturday, July 17 and 18, from 9 am to 4 pm.
The center has that easy Alameda arts feel. It is tucked into the neighborhood at 1601 Paru St., with a calm, creative atmosphere that makes it a nice place to spend a full day looking, sketching, and painting with other artists nearby.
Cleo Vilett will lead the workshop with a focus on simplifying what you see so your painting has more impact. That is a useful skill for plein air work, where the light changes fast and the scene can get busy in a hurry.
This is a good fit if you want more confidence outdoors, especially if you tend to put too much into a scene and then wonder where the painting got away from you. A full day gives you time to slow down, try ideas, and get feedback without rushing.
Registration is listed at $250 for members and $300 for non members.
