RADIO DAY BY THE BAY
July 18, 2026 8:00 am
Alameda gets on the air Saturday, July 18
If you have ever wondered what radio looked like before everything fit in a pocket, head to the California Historical Radio Society on Central Ave. This free Alameda gathering runs from 8 am to 4 pm and brings together old gear, local broadcast history, music, food, and people who still love the sound of a real signal.
The venue has that good Alameda mix of history and neighborly charm. It feels more like stepping into a working collection than a quiet museum. You can see vintage radios, wireless tech, and communication tools up close, with folks around who actually know how the pieces work.
Expect live music, a radio play, an auction, and talks with broadcasters. That mix makes it a solid stop for families, collectors, curious kids, and anyone who grew up tuning a dial in the kitchen or the car.
It is also a nice reason to spend part of the day in central Alameda. Grab food, wander the displays, listen for a while, and meet people who keep this part of Bay Area culture alive.
