A cat detective lands on Park Street
Books Inc. in Alameda has a good setup for a kid book club. It feels easygoing, neighborly, and very Park Street. Kids can browse the shelves, settle in, and talk books without the whole thing feeling too formal.
On Tuesday, July 7, Violet and Friends are hosting a discussion of Detective Beans Adventures in Cat Town by Li Chen. This one is for readers age 10 and up, especially the kids who like mysteries, comics, strange jokes, and animals with big personalities.
The book follows Detective Beans through a bunch of small cases around Cat Town, including a cookie thief, a tricky duck, and a bear with strong feelings about the moon being made of cheese. There are also comics, stories, horoscopes, and bits from a crime solving documentary made by Beans best friend, Biscuits.
That mix should give young readers plenty to talk about. And for parents, this is a nice excuse to get kids into a local bookstore and let them meet other readers who are into the same kind of funny, oddball stories.
