O Say Can You See… the Soul of Our Nation – Postcards from the Future Workshop

Postcards, civic imagination, and a quiet Saturday at Rhythmix

Alameda gets a thoughtful afternoon on Saturday, August 29, when this postcard workshop comes to Rhythmix Cultural Works from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.

The idea is simple and a little strange in a good way. People gather, think about where the country is headed, and send a message back from a future they can imagine. A postcard is small, but that can be the point. You have to choose your words. You have to sit with what matters.

Rhythmix is a good fit for this kind of thing. The Blanding Avenue arts space has that East Bay community room feel, with room for music, conversation, art, and the kind of local gathering where strangers can actually end up talking to each other. It feels more personal than a big hall, which helps when the subject is the soul of a nation.

For this session, the performers are the people in the room. The featured voices come from the artists guiding the workshop and from neighbors willing to put thoughts, worries, hopes, and questions onto paper.
