Volunteer Day & Open House

Sunday at REAP Climate Center in Alameda

If you have been meaning to spend a Sunday doing something useful with other local folks, REAP Climate Center is opening its campus for a full day of volunteer time and community learning on Nov 15.

The space at 2133 Tynan Ave has the feel of a working outdoor classroom. Expect soil, tools, plants, compost, animal care, and people figuring things out side by side. There is no stage act here. The “performers” are the volunteers, the REAP crew, and the steady rhythm of a place built around regenerative practice.

The day starts at 10 am with orientation for new volunteers. The first work session runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a bring your own lunch hang from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The second session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, then the group winds down and cleans up until sunset.

Tasks can change depending on what the campus needs that week. You might help with watering, planting, compost building, animal care, light building projects, or heavier work if that is on the list. No special background is needed. Kids, adults, first timers, and regulars are all welcome.

This is a good pick if you want to meet neighbors, learn by doing, and spend a few hours outside with a purpose. Wear clothes that can get dirty, bring lunch if you plan to stay through the break, and fill out the required waiver before you arrive.

What to Expect:
Everyone, young or old, experienced or still learning, is welcome to join our Sunday and Wednesday volunteer days (and stay for Wednesday night potluck!). We do our best to update this volunteer page one week before the event to describe what tasks we have planned. Some possibilities include: watering, planting, compost building, animal maintenance, light construction or fabrication, and heavy construction.
