Get your hands dirty at REAP Climate Center in Alameda

REAP Climate Center is opening its campus on Sunday, November 8, for a full day of volunteering, learning, and meeting people who care about soil, food, water, and local climate work.

The spot has a very Alameda feel. It is practical, a little earthy, and built around people doing real tasks together. Expect garden beds, tools, compost, animals, and neighbors moving between projects instead of standing around wondering what to do.

There is no band listed for this one. The performers are the planting crew, the compost builders, the folks watering, fixing, hauling, and learning as they go. If you like events where you can talk to people without shouting over music, this is a good fit.

The day starts at 10 am with new volunteer orientation. The first work session runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm, followed by a bring your own lunch hang from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The second session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, then the group winds down and cleans up until sunset.

Tasks can change each week, but past volunteer days have included watering, planting, compost building, animal care, light fabrication, and some bigger build work. You do not need to show up as an expert. Kids, adults, first timers, and regulars are all welcome.

Go because you want to learn something useful. Go because you want to spend a Sunday outside. Go because Alameda has a lot of people doing good work quietly, and this is one easy way to meet them.</p

What to Expect:
Everyone, young or old, experienced or still learning, is welcome to join our Sunday and Wednesday volunteer days (and stay for Wednesday night potluck!). We do our best to update this volunteer page one week before the event to describe what tasks we have planned. Some possibilities include: watering, planting, compost building, animal maintenance, light construction or fabrication, and heavy construction.

Before arriving, please read through our volunteer page and FAQ http://reapcenter.org/volunteering , and sign our online waiver http://reapcenter.org/waiver . All volunteering participants of all ages are required to sign the waiver before coming to campus.
