Volunteer Day & Open House
November 1, 2026 6:00 pm
Sunday at REAP Climate Center in Alameda
If you have been looking for a low key way to get your hands in the soil and meet people doing real climate work close to home, REAP Climate Center is opening its campus on Sunday, November 1.
The day starts at 10:00 am with new volunteer orientation, followed by two work sessions, a bring your own lunch break, and time to clean up before sunset. The campus is at 2133 Tynan Ave in Alameda, tucked into that quieter waterfront side of town where the pace feels a little slower.
Expect practical tasks. Watering, planting, compost building, animal care, fabrication, and construction may all be on the list, depending on what the site needs that week. You do not need to show up as an expert. The point is to learn by doing, alongside neighbors who care about land, food, and community.
There are no booked stage performers listed for this gathering. The people making the day move are the volunteers, staff, builders, growers, and curious first timers working together across the campus.
The atmosphere should be casual and hands on. Bring clothes you can work in, a lunch if you plan to stay through the middle of the day, and a willingness to help with whatever needs doing.
One key thing before you go: every volunteer needs to fill out the online waiver ahead of time. REAP also asks visitors to read through the volunteer info and FAQ before arriving.
Schedule
10:00 am: New volunteer orientation
10:30 am to 12:30 pm: Volunteer session 1
12:30 pm to 1:30 pm: Bring your own lunch and hang
1:30 pm to 3:30 pm: Volunteer session 2
3:30 pm to sunset: Wind down and clean up
For folks in Alameda, Oakland, Berkeley, and the wider East Bay, this is a grounded way to spend a Sunday outside, learn a few useful skills, and plug into a local project that is already in motion.
