Volunteer Day & Open House at REAP Climate Center
Alameda has a good one for anyone who likes learning by doing. On Sunday, August 30, REAP Climate Center opens its Tynan Avenue campus for a full day of volunteering, meeting neighbors, and getting a closer look at the work happening there.
The place has that hands in the soil feel. Expect garden beds, compost, tools, projects in motion, and people who are happy to explain what they are working on. It feels less like a formal tour and more like a community workday where you can show up, ask questions, and be useful.
There are no performers on the bill for this gathering. The energy comes from the volunteers, staff, and regulars who keep the campus moving. You might help with watering, planting, compost building, animal care, light building work, or other tasks depending on what the site needs that week.
The day starts at 10:00 am with new volunteer orientation. The first work session runs from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. After that, people can bring lunch and hang out from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. A second volunteer session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, followed by clean up and a slower wind down toward sunset.
This is a good fit for curious first timers, families, gardeners, climate minded folks, and anyone who wants to spend a Sunday outside doing something local. You do not need to be an expert. The point is to learn, help, and meet people who care about regenerative work in the East Bay.
Before you go, REAP asks all volunteers of all ages to fill out the online waiver. You can do that here: REAP volunteer waiver.
