Volunteer Day & Open House

Volunteer Day & Open House comes to REAP Climate Center in Alameda on Sunday, August 16, starting at 10:00 am.
REAP sits over on Tynan Ave, a little tucked away from the busier parts of Alameda, with the kind of campus feel that makes you slow down once you arrive. Expect garden beds, working projects, shared tools, and people moving around with a purpose. It is a practical, earthy kind of place.
This is a good pick if you want your Sunday to feel useful. New volunteers can start with orientation at 10:00 am, then join the morning session from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. There is a bring your own lunch hang from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, followed by another volunteer session from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. After that, folks wind down and clean up until sunset.
The day’s working cast is the REAP crew, volunteer leads, gardeners, compost builders, animal care helpers, and whoever shows up ready to learn. Tasks can change week to week, but they may include watering, planting, compost work, animal maintenance, light building, fabrication, or bigger construction jobs.
You do not need to arrive as an expert. Kids, adults, first timers, and regulars are all welcome. Bring clothes you can get dusty in, water, lunch if you plan to stay through the middle of the day, and a little patience for learning as you go.

What to Expect:
Everyone, young or old, experienced or still learning, is welcome to join our Sunday and Wednesday volunteer days (and stay for Wednesday night potluck!). We do our best to update this volunteer page one week before the event to describe what tasks we have planned. Some possibilities include: watering, planting, compost building, animal maintenance, light construction or fabrication, and heavy construction.
