Sunday volunteer time at REAP Climate Center in Alameda

REAP Climate Center opens its Alameda campus on Sunday, August 9, from 10 am to sunset for a full day of volunteering, learning, and hanging out with neighbors who like to get their hands in the soil.

The space at 2133 Tynan Ave has a practical, outdoor, community feel. Think garden beds, compost, tools, projects in progress, and people sharing what they know as they work. The main performers here are the volunteers, staff, plants, soil, and the steady rhythm of a campus that runs on care.

The day starts with new volunteer orientation at 10 am, followed by a morning work session from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. Bring your own lunch if you want to stay and talk with folks from 12:30 to 1:30 pm. The afternoon session runs from 1:30 to 3:30 pm, then the group winds down and cleans up until sunset.

Tasks can vary by week. You might help with watering, planting, compost building, animal care, light building work, or bigger campus projects. No special experience is needed. Kids, adults, first timers, and regulars are all welcome.

This is a good pick if you want to meet local people, learn useful skills, and spend part of your Sunday doing something outside. Wear clothes that can get dirty, bring water, pack lunch if you are staying through the break, and make sure to fill out the waiver before you go.

What to Expect:
Everyone, young or old, experienced or still learning, is welcome to join our Sunday and Wednesday volunteer days (and stay for Wednesday night potluck!). We do our best to update this volunteer page one week before the event to describe what tasks we have planned. Some possibilities include: watering, planting, compost building, animal maintenance, light construction or fabrication, and heavy construction.
