Making Stories at Oakland Public Library: Rockridge Branch

Tuesday, September 22, from 3:30 to 5:00 pm, the Rockridge Branch library is making room for young writers, artists, comic makers, poets, and kids who just like making things up.

This is for children ages 8 to 12, and the setup is easygoing. Kids can work solo, pair up with a friend, or join a small group. There might be a writing prompt, a drawing game, free writing time, or space to build a zine, comic, play, poem, book, or whatever story shape feels right that day.

The Rockridge Branch has that calm neighborhood library feel, with College Avenue just outside and plenty of room inside for kids to settle in and focus. The performers here are the young storytellers themselves, along with the characters, worlds, and odd little plot twists they bring to the page.

Parents looking for an after school activity that is creative but low pressure should keep this one in mind. No registration is needed, and new members are welcome. Finished pieces may even have a chance to be read aloud later or added to the library collection.

Oakland Public Library: Rockridge Branch, 5366 College Ave, Oakland. Drop in from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.

Children ages 8 to 12 are invited to join us on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 3:30-5 pm to write, illustrate, make, and tell your own stories.
This is a workshop/club, where kids can work alone, in pairs, or in small groups to write and illustrate stories. Do a fun writing or drawing game, follow a prompt, free-write, or illustrate.
Create a book, a zine, a comic, a story, a kamishibai, a play, a poem, or whatever!
We’ll set a date for people who want to read aloud their finished stories and celebrate, and we welcome stories to be added into the library collection.
Drop in, no registration required. New members always welcome.
