California Writers Club at Oakland Public Library: Rockridge Branch
On Saturday, October 24, the Rockridge Branch hosts a steady, welcoming afternoon for writers in Oakland. The meeting runs from 1 to 5 pm, which gives folks time to settle in, listen, read, and talk through the work.
The setting fits the mood. This is a neighborhood library space, calm and book lined, with the kind of room where people can actually hear each other think. No stage glare. No big scene. Just writers sharing pages and useful notes.
The performers here are the writers themselves. Expect work from different genres and different levels of experience, from people just getting started to people who have already published. The group has been meeting at the Rockridge Branch for about 25 years, so there is a real local rhythm to it.
If you are working on a story, poem, essay, memoir, or book idea, this is a good place to bring it into the room. If you are not ready to read yet, listening can still be helpful. You hear what lands, what needs clarity, and how other writers solve the same problems you may be facing at home.
It is also a simple way to meet other East Bay writers without making a big production out of it. Bring a notebook. Bring a few pages if you want feedback. Bring questions about craft, publishing, or keeping a writing practice going.
Event details are posted online, and you can also check the Rockridge Branch venue page for location info in Oakland.
We areĀ open to writers in every genre and at every level of experience, from novice to published. Our mission is to educate writers of all abilities in the craft and business of writing. Our purpose is to promote fellowship and to provide practical information that supports all members in achieving their publishing goals. We have met at the Rockridge Branch for about 25 years where we read each other’s work and offer positive suggestions to help the author improve their work.
