Friday gaming in downtown Oakland
The Main TeenZone at Oakland Public Library is keeping Fridays easy with an afternoon of video games for teens. From 2:00 to 3:30 pm, the room turns into a casual hangout with controllers, friendly matches, and a good reason to stick around after school.
Expect games like Super Smash Bros. and Mario Kart, so the “performers” are really the players. One minute it is a close race, the next it is a loud comeback on the character select screen. Simple fun.
The Main Library at 125 14th Street has that downtown Oakland feel, close to transit, school routes, and the Civic Center area. The TeenZone gives teens their own space inside the library, which makes this feel relaxed rather than formal.
No sign up is needed. Teens can just drop in, play a round, watch a match, or hang out with friends for a bit before the weekend starts.
