Oakland artist and muralist Alan Leon will lead a drawing session focused on looking closely at the world around you. He has spent 35 years in the Bay Area, and his work comes from that long habit of watching landscapes, streets, light, and daily life with care.

The Main Library at 125 14th Street has the right feel for this kind of afternoon. It is calm, public, and very Oakland. You can come in from downtown, settle at a table, and spend two hours making marks without needing to be perfect.

This is a good pick for anyone who wants to draw more but needs a friendly reason to start. Bring your curiosity, your sketchbook if you have one, and a willingness to look a little longer than usual.
