Yoga at the Oakland Public Library, Friday afternoon

On Friday, August 7, the Oakland Public Library is making room for a calm hour of yoga from 4 to 5 pm. The Main Library at 125 14th St has that familiar downtown Oakland feel, public, welcoming, and easy to settle into for a bit.

This class is led by Jaime, who has been practicing yoga since 2011 and brings a steady, curious style to teaching. The session is open to people who are new to yoga, along with folks who have been practicing for years.

Expect a simple focus on poses, breath, and moving with care. The pace is meant to be accessible, with space to learn the basics and be in community without taking the whole thing too seriously.

Bring comfortable clothes, a yoga mat, and a small blanket or bath towel. If you use blocks, straps, or other supports, bring those too.

If your week has been loud, this is a good low pressure way to reset before the weekend. You can find more details on the event page, including accessibility information.

Come practice yoga! This class is designed for those new to yoga, as well as long-time practitioners. Accessibly paced, we will focus on the fundamentals of poses (asana), breathing, and being in community. This class is meant to ground students in their bodies, while not taking ourselves too seriously. Come as you are to the mat. Participants will need to wear comfortable clothing for movement and bring a yoga mat and small blanket (or bath towel), as well as any other supports they would like.

Jaime has been practicing yoga since 2011. The more she practices, the more she uncovers how much yoga has to offer in transforming a busy mind and in transforming one’s relation to the world. Jaime sees herself as a life-long learner whose teaching style is to hold space in class for others to explore their practice. Jaime completed her 200 hour yoga teacher training and has completed additional trainings on energetics and breath.
