The Locals opens Friday, September 11 at Manna Gallery in Oakland, with a reception from 6 to 8 pm.
This is a good one for anyone who likes seeing what East Bay artists are making right now. K Gallery is presenting the exhibit, curated by Ginny Parsons, and the opening night should have that easy gallery reception feel: people drifting in from 25th Street, a little conversation, a little looking, and time to take in the work without rushing.
Manna Gallery has a calm, close up kind of atmosphere. It is the kind of room where you can stand with a piece for a minute, step back, talk to someone nearby, then circle around again. The artists are the main presence here, with local voices setting the tone on the walls.
The show runs through October 25, but opening night is the best time to catch the first buzz around it. Stop by after work, bring a friend, and make it part of a small Oakland art walk evening.
