Transit stories get the mic at Local Economy
Oakland riders know that a bus ride or train trip can turn into a whole story before the next stop. On Wednesday, September 23, Local Economy hosts an evening built around those moments, with SPUR, Muni Diaries, and Local Economy bringing people together for true stories from public transit.
The performers here are everyday riders. Someone might tell a funny story about a missed stop. Someone else might share a strange encounter, a small act of kindness, or a moment that stayed with them long after the ride ended.
Local Economy should be a good fit for this kind of night. It has the feel of a community room more than a big stage, which helps when the focus is on real people and short stories. You can show up to listen, or you can put your name in the bowl for a chance to tell a three minute story.
If you ride AC Transit, BART, Muni, or any mix of them, you probably have something to connect with here. Transit has a way of putting strangers in the same place for a little while, and sometimes that is all a story needs.
The event runs from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm in Oakland. When you RSVP, choose either Participant if you want to share, or Attendee if you plan to listen and cheer people on.
Every transit rider has a story.
Join SPUR, Muni Diaries, and Local Economy for an evening of true stories inspired by riding transit. From unexpected encounters and meet-cutes to hilarious mishaps and heartfelt moments, Transit Tales celebrates the experiences that make public transportation unforgettable.
Come ready to share a 3-minute story or simply sit back and enjoy an evening of community storytelling.
When you RSVP, please select either “Participant” or “Attendee.” Selecting Participant lets us know you’re interested in sharing a story, but it does not guarantee you’ll be selected to tell one. When you arrive, participants who want to share will add their name to a bowl, and storytellers will be selected throughout the evening.
Whether you’re telling a story or cheering others on, come celebrate the people, places, and moments that make transit memorable.
