Poetry, Oakland voices, and environmental justice at Local Economy

Thursday, September 3, Local Economy hosts the next Sundial reading from 6 to 8 pm, with poet Ben Gucciardi holding down the room.

This one has a strong West Oakland thread. The evening benefits the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project, a group that has spent two decades working on environmental justice in the neighborhood. That work touches air, health, trucks, ports, and the daily reality of living near heavy industry.

The reader list is still taking shape, but Alexis Madrigal is on the bill, which already makes this worth marking down. Expect poems, conversation, and a room that feels more like a local gathering than a formal literary event.

Poet Ben Gucciardi hosts a new reading series at Local Economy. This third edition will benefit the West Oakland Environmental Indicators Project (WOEIP), which has been the leading environmental justice organization in that part of the city for the last 20 years.
