Story Explorers Salon: Stories of Travel & Adventure
September 18, 2026 6:00 pm
Travel stories, awkward turns, and real conversation at Local Economy
On Friday, September 18, Local Economy in Oakland hosts a relaxed evening built around travel, adventure, and the stories people carry home with them.
The night runs from 6 to 9 pm and is led by Liz Morrison, a Berkeley based Strategic Story Coach with a long background in helping people shape and share personal stories. She has worked with folks at places like Airbnb, Deloitte, and Pinterest, but this evening sounds much more casual than corporate. Think prompts, small group chats, and the kind of stories that come out when people get past the usual introductions.
Local Economy feels like the right setting for this. It is a community minded Oakland space, the kind of room where a guided conversation can feel easy instead of stiff. The setup is simple. You bring yourself, maybe a drink since BYOB is welcome, and Liz helps steer the evening with games and prompts around travel.
Expect stories about trips that went sideways, strangers met far from home, places that changed someone’s outlook, and maybe a few disasters that are funny now. You do not need stage experience. Most of the night is spent talking in small groups, with a chance to share with the whole room if you feel like it.
If you have been wanting to meet people in Oakland without standing around making small talk, this is a good one to check out. It gives everyone a reason to talk, listen, and leave with a few new stories.
An interactive evening of stories, conversation, and community with Liz Morrison
We’re all craving more genuine connection, but talking to strangers can feel intimidating. The Story Explorers Salon makes it easy (and actually fun).
Join Strategic Story Coach Liz Morrison for an interactive evening where we use our own stories to skip the small talk and connect around a shared theme: Travel & Adventure.
The trip that went gloriously off the rails. The stranger who became a lifelong friend. The place that changed how you see the world. Travel can be exciting, awe-inspiring, and occasionally a total disaster. Together, through playful games, guided prompts, and the chance to share a story with the group, we’ll explore the journeys that shaped us.
No storytelling experience needed, and zero pressure to perform. You’ll spend most of the evening in small groups swapping stories sparked by creative prompts, with the option to share with the room if the spirit moves you.
