Storytime for Caregivers: Britt Murlas of Little Feminist
October 17, 2026 10:00 am
Saturday morning storytime at Local Economy in Oakland
Local Economy is hosting a cozy morning for caregivers on Saturday, October 17, from 10:00 to 11:00 am, with Britt Murlas of Little Feminist joining the room for a board book focused storytime.
This one is built for a calm start to the weekend. Babies and toddlers are welcome, and caregivers can come with or without kids. The idea is simple: read together, talk about books, and spend a little time with other people raising or caring for young children in the East Bay.
Britt Murlas founded Little Feminist, a publisher known for inclusive books for kids. She will share board books for the little ones in the room, then talk about how Little Feminist began and how families can build a home library that reflects many kinds of people and stories.
The gathering is hosted by Patricia Zaballos, and the feel should be warm, relaxed, and community centered. Local Economy already has that neighborhood meeting spot energy, so this fits right in. Come for the books, stay for the conversation after.
It is free, which makes it an easy yes for caregivers looking for something thoughtful and low pressure on a Saturday morning in Oakland.

For our first anniversary edition of Storytime for Caregivers, we’re trying something special: a Saturday morning gathering. And rather than our typical focus on books for adults, this month is all about board books! We’ll be joined by Britt Murlas, founder of Little Feminist, publisher of inclusive books for kids. Between reading board books for the babies in the room, we’ll chat about the origins of Little Feminist and how to curate a diverse home library. As always, babies and toddlers are welcome at this series, but not required! Hosted by member Patricia Zaballos.
One-hour event; stay after for IRL connection! Free!
Vibes: Warm, relaxing, communal
