Oakland is full of small questions if you slow down enough to see them. A chair left at the curb. A strange mark on the sidewalk. A building that feels like it has a story it is keeping to itself.
That is the idea behind this one hour gathering at Local Economy. The mood should be casual and curious, more neighborhood walk than formal class. Local Economy makes sense for this kind of thing, with its community feel and Oakland centered energy.
This month’s theme is Mysteries, so expect people to share odd little details they have noticed around town, then wonder out loud about them. There are no stage performers here. The “performers” are the city itself, plus the people in the room bringing their questions, stories, and guesses.
It is inspired by Rob Walker’s Art of Noticing, which is all about paying better attention to everyday life. You do not need special knowledge. You just need curiosity and maybe a willingness to ask, “Wait, why is that there?”
If your weekend could use something quiet, social, and very Oakland, this is a good fit. Come for the mystery. Stay for the small stories hiding in plain sight.
