Bird-tanical Drawing!
October 6, 2026 6:00 pm
Oakland sketch night with birds, plants, and good company
Tuesday, October 6, Local Economy in Oakland hosts a drawing class with a funny little twist: plants meet pigeons.
Artist Hannah Hirsekorn brings her eye for flora and fauna from Oology Tattoo, where she works on paper and skin. Maggie Tokuda Hall joins in with her bird energy, sharp humor, and story sense. She is known for children’s and young adult books, plus her work with Authors Against Book Bans.
The setting should fit the class well. Local Economy has that neighborhood creative feel, the kind of place where you can settle in, look around, and end up chatting with someone at the next table. Expect a relaxed room, some head bobbing bird talk, and enough plant detail to keep your pencil busy.
You do not need to be a polished artist to enjoy this. If you like drawing, birds, leaves, local writers, tattoo art, or just want a calm evening doing something with your hands, this is a sweet way to spend two hours.
When: Tuesday, October 6, 2026, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Where: Local Economy, Oakland, California

Hannah Hirsekorn teams up with Maggie Tokuda-Hall to bring you a special drawing class that takes Hannah’s botanical specialty and mixes it with Maggie’s, which we take to be pigeons (and maybe other, lesser birds sometimes).
Hannah is an artist who works on paper and skin. She runs Oology Tattoo, where she specializes in flora and fauna.
Maggie is an author of celebrated children’s and young adult books, including the forthcoming Bath Time for Snow Monkeys, which is about what it says right there in the title. She’s also the local champion of Authors Against Book Bans.
Vibes: Soaring, chirping, head bobbing
