Sketch Oakland with Cathy Raingarden on Saturday, July 18

If you have ever wanted to slow down and actually look at Jack London through an artist’s eye, this is a nice way to spend a late morning.

Cathy Raingarden is leading a two hour urban sketch session that starts at The Grand Gallery Oakland at 11 am. The gallery sits at 560 2nd St, close to the waterfront streets, old brick buildings, and everyday Oakland scenes that make this part of town good sketching territory.

The class is made for all levels, so you do not need to show up with a polished portfolio or fancy art school confidence. Cathy breaks things into bite sized lessons, which should help if you are new to drawing in public or just want a little structure while you practice.

Bring comfortable clothes, walking shoes, water, and a snack. You will be moving around the Jack London area, looking for scenes to sketch rather than staying planted in one room the whole time.

The class fee is $55. If you need supplies, arrive a little early and you can buy a watercolor kit and pens for an added $25.

This one feels especially good for people who like Oakland on foot, want a low pressure creative outing, or need a reason to get away from screens for a couple hours.
