AUTUMN LIGHTS FESTIVAL

Autumn Lights Festival brings an evening glow to The Gardens at Lake Merritt on Thursday, October 15, from 6 to 11 pm.
The gardens already have that quiet Oakland charm, with winding paths, plant life tucked into every corner, and Lake Merritt close by. After dark, the whole place gets a different feel. Light pieces sit among the trees and garden beds, so you can wander at your own pace and keep finding something new around the next turn.
This year marks the 15th anniversary, with more than 70 illuminated art displays planned across the grounds. There will also be live entertainment, so expect music and performances mixed into the walk. It is the kind of night where you can go for the art, stay for the food, and still end up lingering by one more glowing sculpture before heading out.
The art market adds a good local touch, and the food court makes it easy to turn the evening into dinner. Beer and wine gardens are part of the setup too. Families have a spot as well, with a kid’s zone and a costume contest for anyone who wants to show up with a little extra sparkle.
If you like low pressure Oakland nights with art, lights, people watching, and a reason to be outside after sunset, this is a solid one to put on the calendar. The Gardens at Lake Merritt are at 666 Bellevue Ave in Oakland. Tickets are set to go on sale September 1.
